I've been meaning to blog since I got back from Italy 2 weeks ago but I've been very busy and just haven't had the time but I'm back now and that's the main thing, right? This post is going to be a long one due to the amount of photos. I went to Italy on July 14th and got home July 20th, and even though we only saw a little bit of it Italy was amazing. I want to go back there already. I went with National Holidays so it was a coach trip and we stayed in Montecatini Terme. It's a cute little town and our hotel was right next to the town center so it was easy to find shops and have pizza or go for a walk. During the week we visited Florence, Rome and Pisa and on the way to Italy we passed through Switzerland and I got to see the Swiss Alps, Lake Como and Lake Lugano! It was amazing, never thought I'd see anything as beautiful as that. I bought a snow globe when we were in Switzerland but sadly it smashed, I was and still am very upset about it. I also bought a snow globe in Florence, Rome and Pisa so we have something small in our house to show we've been to those places.
Florence: Florence was nothing like I expected it to be. I play a lot of Assassins Creed so I've seen this place as very old and whatnot so seeing how modern it is not was just crazy. We got the option to pay €17 each to go on a tour of Florence as a group and most of us did that. I'm glad we did or me and my mum would have definitely got lost! We went up to Piazzale Michelangelo and saw the beautiful view of Florence, it honestly is amazing. Whilst we were up there we also saw the statue of Michelangelo. We then went down in to the town and we saw the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, it is huge! I'm not sure why but I did not expect it to be as big as it is. The tour guide showed us a lot of old and important buildings, palaces and the like. It's crazy how many important buildings there is. There's also a lot of statues everywhere you go, the tour guide took us to to the fountain of Neptune and told us a story of how it had been vandalised and how the statue of David that is nearby is a copy and isn't the real one, it was really interesting. Near the fountain there's a small outdoor bit where there's lots of statues, some are originals. The tour guide showed us a nice self service food place that's cheap called the hot pot. We went there and the food is good for how cheap it is! How nice of him to tell us about it.
Rome: I'm not going to lie but Rome was an absolute let down because we didn't have enough time to explore. The whole group again paid €17 for a tour guide and she was terrible. What we did see was amazing but my mum and me are definitely going to have to go back there sometime soon to explore it ourselves. We only saw the outside of The Colosseum and that upset me because I really wanted to go inside but we didn't have that option. The tour guide was also meant to take us through some kind of side door to miss the awfully long queue to get in to The Vatican but that didn't happen either! We didn't get to go inside St. Peter's Basilica or The Sistine Chapel or anything like that and that really upset my mum because she wanted to see that so badly. I also wanted to visited the Pantheon but we never went near it. For that reason I definitely want to go back to Rome next year, but only Rome and nowhere else in Italy. We did have a good day though. Me, my mum and our group got chased by 'looky looky' men trying to sell us bags, it was awful. Those people trying to sell you junk really do not know what the word 'no' means it's so annoying but it was absolutely hilarious at the same time. One of them ran after us all the way back to the coach just to try and sell us all bags! What a lunatic! We got to visit Trevi fountain when we were in Rome and we also saw Altare della Patria. We got ice cream whilst visiting Trevi too and it was so nice, but it melted very quickly!
Pisa: There's not an awful lot to see in Pisa, there's a small square where Battistero di San Giovanni, Piazza dei Miracoli and The Leaning Tower are located. There's market stalls all the way up to the square and there's a McDonalds nearby! We didn't go there though, we went for pizza (how typical!). There were so many people doing the typical pose next to the tower it was crazy.
Overall I did enjoy my holiday to Italy but I definitely want to go back just to see Rome properly, I feel like we missed out massively.
